Desired Things

Hi guys!

 This is my first ever post on this blog. :) And I would just like to share this wonderful poem by Max Ehrman. When I was making this blog, I really can't think of any other names, all the names I listed on my notebook were already taken. I did some research before I even came up with this name. So I searched and typed on google "strive beautiful". And guess what! the word desidirata appeared. According to Wikipedia, the word desidirata is a Latin word meaning...
desired things.
 At first glance, I knew that this was a very interesting name. The fact that this blog is a general blog for a newbie like me. I want the name to be general, at the same time, versatile and unique. There are however blogs, in this site as well with this name. :) Luckily, it's just their titles, not their domain names.

 Okay. I made this blog because I want to write. I do. :) I really do. But in a diary-manner. I keep it only to myself, for myself. I kept on stumbling with so many blogs, local and foreign, and asked myself why can't I blog?

 Desidirata, the meaning itself is so striking to me. At this point in my life, I generally can't buy everything I want. Probably, those who do can't buy their happiness as well. I mean, yes, money can buy happiness but It can't buy you real love. :) Its getting really boring here. Anyway, to sum it all, I made this blog primarily because of those "desired things". Well, not now, but who knows? Someday, maybe. ♥

 Desiderata

 Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant;
 they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
 Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
 Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
 But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
 Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.

 The next lines are what stroke me the most. I hope this serves as a daily reminder for everyone of us.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

 Do you believe this poem? Do you believe at some point you will also get to that point of not just desiring, but maybe acquiring things you want? What kind of things do you desire? Does materialistic things bring real happiness and satisfaction?
